I could only dream
Of it finding me. Dream of how it would feel.
Feather soft. Up and down
Up and down
The skin of my arm.
Clover lawns under my feet
Midday sun on a spring day.
And it would be quiet
As I dream of time freezing--
A warm hand on my oversaturated heart--
Showing me a mercy unlike anything
Before.

And everything else
Is so cruel. But never this. In my dreams
Golden iridescence; dawn rays through pine leaves.
Have you tried
To catch light? My shadow swallows it all
Greedy, nothing is left.
A thing like me could only wish to
Touch it.
I dream of it so fervently.
Of a kindness so bright!
My bones strip themselves down to the marrow.
